Dobbelaar: randomness is in the name
Randomness plays an important role in quantum computing: measurement outcomes follow a probability distribution. That gives my surname a playful connection to my work. Dobbelaar refers to playing dice, where chance and luck have long played a central role.
The name and related spellings can be traced back to around 1300. This name history of more than 700 years connects my present-day interest in quantum computing with a much older fascination with the unpredictable.
